This Is America.

To be honest, I forgot my laptop this morning before my classes so I'm posting late today. However, this extra time gave me the opportunity to get completely honest with myself. I had planned to wax on about my observations or what I witness in the yoga studio, different patterns yet similar reactions when shit starts to get hard, but I'd be glossing over what I really want to address ever since I tuned into the buzz regarding Childish Gambino's song/video, "This Is America."

The powerful punch, regarding a shit ton of very important issues that are unfortunately STILL occurring today, that this video addresses, is not something to watch with one eye. For me, I probably watched 5 or so times, to really try to catch all of the intricate details weaved in that go unnoticed because at first view I just watched the dancing. Touche. Regardless of my opinion, that being that Donald Glover is a GENIUS, I hope everyone gets a chance to witness and not necessarily form an opinion, but more so OBSERVE HOW YOU FEEL. The juice is in the feelings that this video evokes. When the beat drops, when the melody changes, when your guided to look deeper. Do you recoil? Do you feel guilt? Shocked? Sickened? Do you keep dancing? There isn't a right or wrong answer because at the end of the day it's all still opinion, but there is a wisdom, and hopefully a shift that can take place after you recognize and confront how it made you feel. The irony in this video is unreal and I'm just in awe of how many layers this song and video hit. After you watch it, Google, "This Is America," and read some of the first few articles, especially The Buzzfeed article regarding details maybe not caught by first or tenth view. Finding different perspectives then any opinion you may have formed watching solo.
